Digital World

I always wondered what to expect beyond the year 2000. I expected the world to be like the Jetson's cartoon. There was a TV show called beyond 2000 that gave us glimpses of the technology and the things we have to look forward to in the future. I was about 15 years old. The year was about 1990-91. There were no windows, and cell phones could be used to build a house. The world survived without all the accessories of life we have now. If you could not reach someone by calling their house, you just wait. If you know your favorite singer is releasing a new album. You go to the record store and check the list of new releases. If you wanted to know how to make a special gourmet dish, you’d better have a good cook book or hope that grandma is home to answer the phone.

I am entering this blog on September 21, 2009. It is a long ways from 1991. I am now 33 years old and entering this blog on my laptop. The reason I am blogging is because it is a requirement of my online English 111 college course. This is really the future. Everything is at the click of a button connected to the world wide web. Almost anything can be downloaded. You can become best friends and grow up with people who you only know by typing texts and viewing images.

Cell phones can fit in the palm of your hands and can perform almost any function an desktop computer can. You can purchase and transfer music as a “file” instead of a CD or record. And if need a quick recipe, all you have to do is Google it. Cars can verbally give you directions to a destination. Yes we are living in a digital world.
